I began working with digital audio in 1995 to learn how to preserve and remaster audio recordings (old records), and have a 25 year multi-media background that includes radio/audio and video production. My skills are with analog and digital media production, graphic design and the remastering of audio and video files. I have a passion (obsession) for 78 RPM records and older audio technologies. This has lead to some wonderful and unexpected things, as all significant parts of life should.
On Tuesday mornings (Central time zone, USA) from 9:00 - 11:00 AM, I host and produce a weekly radio program called Dig Up The Roots. I am interested in the forgotten & weird; haunted and beautiful sounds, stories and songs. With the Ancient Mix Master I am able to play 78 RPM records live on the air, helping the ancient to consume the future because music only works when you listen to it.
In 2005, Minnesota-based record label, INNOVA Records, compiled and released a retrospective of sound collages from my old (1985 - 1989) experimental radio program, Technological Retreat.
From 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM on Sunday night/Monday morning I made Sound Collages, the live layering and mixing of different audio sources. Some of the material was from record collections, some were field and bridge and building recordings, some original material. Like with any collage the pieces are the medium for creating a new work. I viewed preexisting recordings as the raw material for creating my own sound collages.
If you want, you can read an interview with me that Jon Nelson of Some Assembly Required did recently.
If you really want to, here is a 20 minute audio clip of an interview with me from his radio show.
I have a page on mnartists.org.
