AUDIO ARCHEOLOGY is an Audio Transfer and Remastering service.
I began working with digital media in 1997, being most interested in the digital transferring and remastering of older (ahem) popular media sources. I work with a variety of recorded media and know how important "that certain sound" is. I actually use restored / remastered audio and 78 RPM records on my weekly radio program, However, due to things like neglect over time, improper storage of material, moisture etc be aware that one might not get a pristine clear cd back once their record or tape has been recorded. Recently I have been getting plastic records from the late 40's early 50's era, some of these are just awful recordings to begin with. Add on top of this scratches going in different directions, the neglect of time, and it becomes imposable to remove most of the noise without affecting the actual content of the recording. It's like restoring an old car covered in rust. Sometimes when all the rust is removed, there isn't a car left. Be assured that you will get back the highest quality recording possible. |

Top TRANSFER / RESTORE Records. I love records and I take very good care of them once they are here. First the records are cleaned with a record vacuum, that I'm told if it was a floor vacuum could pull it self across the floor. This removes nearly all of the dust etc. I use a contemporary turntable with it's own preamplifier built into it, with speed control between 8-88 RPMs which allows for recording half speed masters, old records recorded at too fast a speed - which did happen, and everything in between. I also use a variety of stylus and cartridges - the needle - depending upon the record. I have a few of each mono, stereo and 78 rpm stylus to work with. Once the record / tape is recorded I can either make a direct copy with no sound editing - a transfer - or edit down to the millisecond with a variety of audio software. Some records / tapes require more of this than others do, depending upon the condition of the record / tape. This is the restoration where one can equalize, remove hiss and isolate and remove cracks and pops, to name just a small portion of the capabilities.

Hey Greg, I wanted to just let you know, you did a great job and the CD
sounds great. Thanks again for your prompt turnaround time.
The records, etc. and CDs arrived in good shape. I am so happy I went ahead and had the records transferred. It was great doing business with you. Thanks you so much.
Greg,
Hi Greg,
From the sounds of things, you had a challenge with these records but were able to get the job done. After talking to folks in the St Louis area about this type of work, it sounds like you may be one of the very few who has the right equipment, knowledge, and skill to properly do this kind of work - you certainly have my endorsement!
"[Greg] has given us equally outstanding results...we were amazed with what you managed to accomplish for us..."
Greg, the CDs arrived yesterday. I was delighted at how nicely they were presented--never guessed the original cover & label were going to be replicated! Just great and many thanks.
